Popis: TOLTEC is an explicit Eulerian multi-dimensional finite volume wavecode under development at Amparo Corporation for performing calculations involving penetration, shocks, and other high strain rate and large deformation phenomena in solids. The unique feature of TOLTEC is that it employs domain decomposition to allow selective grid refinement in regions requiring good spatial resolution without distorting the topology of the computational mesh elsewhere. In addition, time steps are chosen independently in each domain, hence a small time step in one region of a calculation need no longer force a small time step everywhere. The combination of these features makes it possible to perform well resolved three dimensional calculations for considerably less cost than with traditional hydrocodes.
