Background & objectives Organophosphorus (OP) compounds is the most common poisoning. Serum pseudocholinesterase enzymes levels are routinely measured in OP compound poisoning. The Peradeniya Organophosphorus Poisoning (POP) scale is used to assess the severity of the poisoning. So this study was conducted to assess the severity using POP scoring system and to estimate serum pseudocholinesterase values in OP compound poisoning patient. Methods A cross sectional study was conducted on 100 patients admitted under Department of General medicine , Adichuchunchanagiri hospital and research centre, B.G. Nagara. Results Among the patients, 47% had mild poisoning, 48% had moderate poisoning and 5% had severe poisoning according to POP Scale. Patients who had lower level of serum pseudocholinesterase had increased mortality. ConclusionThere was good association between POPScale and serum pseudocholinesterase levels and severity of poisoning. Our study shows that the severity of poisoning had a direct relation with the pseudocholinesterase levels. |
