Nanoparticles must be well characterized before performing an experiment. As researchers following the scientific method, we must first control the variables to be able to attribute the outcome of an experiment to a specific known factor. If our test article itself (i.e., nanoparticle) is inherently unknown or unpredictable, then the value of the data gathered is also inconclusive and greatly limited. This chapter discusses some of the more common techniques used to determine specific properties of nanomaterials and speaks to some of the challenges of both data collection and interpretation. |
