Anyone even fairly familiar with the history of religion in the Southeast is aware of the fact that two out of three Abrahamic religions, which are in the majority in the area, is their hostility toward women. Once democratic changes began during the 1990s, there was a real hope amongst women in the Balkans that there was now a democratic means, such as respect for Human Rights for all citizens, which would take care of respect for their rights. The need for protection was more than obvious once the two Abrahamic religions were on their way back into the public sphere, as the moral rulers of the newborn society. However, did this protection of women’s rights ever see daylight? |
