Popis: | In this study it is shown that the fluorous alcohol hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) can act as superior extraction solvent for the in-situ extraction of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from aqueous reaction system. HFIP has a far higher partition coefficient for HMF compared to common extraction solvents like MIBK and n-butanol and has a significant lower boiling point of 58-59 °C. In a system containing fructose, HCl as catalyst and HFIP as extraction solvent a HMF high yield of 89 % was achieved which far better than HMF yields in common MIBK/butanol extraction systems. HFIP extracts HMF from reaction phase without extraction of the educt fructose. In addition the aqueous catalyst phase can be reused. |
