Popis: Due to several reasons like overpopulation, industrialization, urbanization, and climate change, there is a decline in groundwater sources in a country like India. Also, the contamination of groundwater increases at an alarming rate in recent decades. Several anthropogenic and industrial activities are the major contributors to these contaminations. To manage and maintain sustainability among the available groundwater sources, it is necessary to assess its vulnerability. This study attempts to assess the vulnerability of aquifers of the Noyyal River Basin, a highly industrialized region using a geographic information system and DRASTIC method. The vulnerability index map was generated using ArcGIS by the weighted overlay analysis of seven influencing parameters created as thematic layers after assigning appropriate ranks and weights determined by the analytical hierarchy process. The results are validated using the observed groundwater quality data collected from the study area in both pre- and postmonsoon periods. Also, it confirms a good agreement with the observed field data.
