Popis: Probably no community in our nation is free of concern about hazardous waste sites. “Horror stories” barrage us each night on the TV news. Cancer, various skin disorders, and a host of degenerative diseases are among the conditions that such waste dumps are suspected of causing. We physicians are frequently asked to participate in the assessment of the health of our community with special reference to such conditions, yet most of us have little experience in community-wide health appraisal. Drs Stark. Standfast, and Huffaker of the New York State Department of Health provide some helpful guidance for physicians in these circumstances.—R. B. H.
