Popis: | The hematopoietic stem-cell transplant patient is at increased risk for infections secondary to the underlying disease process and the acquired immune deficiencies that occur after the procedure. These infections tend to occur in predictable time periods as the host immune system recovers. Knowledge of the several phases that occur after the transplant and their associated immune defects helps in establishing a differential diagnosis for common and opportunistic infections that might occur. The objective of this article is to provide general guidelines and a standard approach for the management of infections in the hematopoietic stem-cell transplant recipient. Additionally, recommendations regarding how to prevent infections and a schedule for administering immunizations after the transplant are provided. Copyright © 2000 by W.B. Saunders Company |
