Popis: | An analysis of the condition for ultrahigh-energy gamma photons to be absorbed on fossil photons is used in order to establish a firm bound for the distances to possible sources of primary gamma rays with E/sub y/ greater than or equal to10/sup 15/ eV: dless than or equal to 10 kpc. At the same time, the first observational indication is also obtained that ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays are generated in sources of galactic origin. Arguments are advanced to show that the diffuse gamma rays with E/sub y/ greater than or equal to 5 x 10/sup 14/ eV found with the Tien Shan Extensive Air Showers array are due to the contribution of unresolved discrete sources, and are formed in regions of intense star formation near the Sun. |
