Effect of preliminary mechanical twinning on the ductile-brittle transition temperature for iron with different impurity contents

Popis: The dependence of true fracture stress on temperature undergoes a break at 160~ (curve 2 in Fig. la) which corresponds to a change in fracture mechanism from ductile to brittle. Nonetheless, below 160~ silicon iron specimens in the original condition are not brittle; elongation before fracture is 10-18% (curve 1 in Fig. ib) and the difference between yield point and fracture stress is still significant (curves 1 and 2 in Fig. la). The of the ductile--brittle transition below which silicon iron specimens in the original condition fail with zero plasticity is 140-130~
