Popis: | The role of competition among cotton rats ( Sigmodon hispidus ), pigmy mice ( Baiomys taylori ), and fulvous harvest mice ( Reithrodontomys fulvescens ) in determining microhabitat utilization was examined in a species removal field experiment conducted in the postoak savanna habitat of east-central Texas. Presence of cotton rats did not affect microhabitat utilization or population size of fulvous harvest mice during winter or spring, or of pigmy mice during spring. Presence of cotton rats may have reduced pigmy mouse population size during winter. Neither pigmy mice or fulvous harvest mice used a broader range of microhabitats in the absence of cotton rats than in their presence. |
