Popis: This chapter examines the craft of item and task writing as it relates to validity and fairness in the design of test questions and tasks. Numerous examples of selected response items are provided and discussed in light of mistakes that novice item writers make. Examples of flawed items with poor statistical properties are provided and likely reasons for poor performance are discussed. Subsequent revisions to these items were made and the items were re-pretested. Improved statistics after re-pretesting are provided for comparison. In addition to examining a constructed response item before and after revision, various aspects of scoring, including rubric development and rater training, are considered. Keywords: Assessment evaluation; ESL/EFL; Language for academic purposes; Statistical analysis
