Popis: This chapter provides a multiscale context for detailed characterization of the hillslope subsurface and surface flow processes that lead to channel initiation. Beginning at the micro-scale (meter or submeter length scale), we describe the flow behaviors in porous media, macropores, pipes, and over the land surface. Moving to the hillslope scale, we describe how these micro-scale flow behaviors relate to a hillslope hydrologic response, which is controlled by the interactions between climate, geology, and vegetation. We then describe locations of channel initiation as features that integrate the hillslope hydrologic response at the landscape scale.
