Accessibility to healthcare services is understood in terms of the provision and utilization of the services by a certain group of individuals. A growing body of literature addresses healthcare accessibility from cultural and social perspectives. Cultural adequacy, power dynamics, societal hierarchies and norms, stigma and discrimination are seen as key contributors to healthcare accessibility. This chapter focuses on Morocco, in the Maghreb region which includes Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania and Libya and together share distinct cultural similarities. The chapter addresses how Morocco’s languages, religion, social norms and values act as barriers (or enablers) to accessing healthcare services. |
