Popis: One-room schoolhouses refer to settings where all simulation functions occur within a single room and learning takes place potentially involving learners from different healthcare professional backgrounds. It provides an effective, resource-saving, and time-sparing teaching commodity. One-room schoolhouses constitute an alternative to simulation centers in newly established academic or healthcare institutions, or those faced by financial and spatial constraints. Schoolhouses can be fixed or mobile, based on the simulation program’s needs. Challenges include limited space, the inability to run several scenario-based simulations simultaneously, unless they are purely skills-based, and the potential for learners’ distractibility because of the presence of simulator operators and instructors in the same room. Operationally, this type of simulation setup is relatively easy to achieve and is the model most frequently used when it is established primarily for the use of one department. However, over time, this may become insufficient to meet the program’s and learners’ demands. Then, management issues for obtaining additional space, managing support personnel, scheduling, and securing funding may need to be addressed.
