Anterior sacral tumors are rare. Recently, we experienced quite a rare case of malignant neurilemmoma. The case is a 51-year-old man, who came to our hospital for defectation pain. Digital examination of the rectum revealed a tumor, which was confirmed by CT and MRI, and a chordoma was suspected of the anterior aspect of the sarcum. The huge tumor filled almost the entire pelvic cavity. It was removed by a transabdominal-transsacral method. It was a solid encapsulated tumor 16×10×8cm in size. Pathological diangosis was a malignant neurilemmoma, and the patient has been closely followed on ambulant basis. It is seldom to encounter a tumor in this region, but the types of tumors are diverse. CT and MRI are most useful but these diagnostic methods are not yet perfect in quality. The importance of digital examination of the rectum should be emphasized for an early detection of such diseases. |
