Popis: Blogs, video games and other interactivity advantages are vastly expanding the impact of the internet. With the added potential to reach target-specific populations, the web is emerging as an all-purpose medium. Most significant, the internet is fast becoming the preferred roadmap to e-commerce and consumer-to-consumer communication. Agencies are making some modest gains in web advertising (WA); however, in the use of web as retail outlet and source of virtual reality (VR) experience, they are far behind the competition. They also seem uncertain what role they should play. This article examines the impact of internet innovation on the advertising industry, and in particular, the advantages of virtual-reality-based sites as a source of advertising. Further, it explores how the current technological proficiency gap between ad agencies and the new breed of competition may be minimized, offering some strategies.
