Trans isomers in several methyl ester mixtures and in some commercial margarines were separated on a 15′ × ⅛″ stainless steel column containing 10% Silar 10C as stationary phase. With the methyl ester mixtures, good agreement was obtained among known trans contents, trans contents determined by infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and trans contents determined by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC).
