Popis: This chapter analyses the cultural influences of film and radio in the empire. It first considers the effects of cinema upon imperial culture as well as the extent to which this innovative technology had an ideologically conservative influence or helped to advance the emergence of new identities and political affiliations. The chapter takes a look at different types of films: the topical film, documentary and ‘uplift’ films, talkies, and empire feature films. It then turns to radio, which became increasingly important in British national life between the wars but also became highly influential as an international means of communication. After all, unlike other communication technologies of the time, radio was wireless, thus cultural forms could be broadcasted all over the empire.
