Synthesis of arachidonic acid and related higher unsaturated compounds

Popis:	The usefulness of hexa-2,5-diyn-1-ol as an intermediate in the synthesis of arachidonic acid, poly-yn alcohols and docosa-4,7,10,13,16,19-hexaynoic acid is demonstrated. Difficulties in the partial reduction of the latter product to the corresponding all cis-hexaenoic acid are described.
