This study aims to combine extant research on the characteristics of best forecasters, namely those with high crystallized intelligence (CI) and high fluid intelligence (CI), with findings about the helpfulness of relying on one’s feelings when making predictions. We expect to show that a reliance on feelings increases our access to the knowledge, both CI and FI, that we consciously and unconsciously absorb every day; this vast amount of predictive information inherent in us is what allows us to make more accurate predictions. We also expect to show that high CI and high FI work together to bring an additive benefit to forecasting accuracy, and that this benefit is further accentuated when there is a higher reliance on feelings. Our study attempts to show the distinctive view that rational factors, when complemented by more “emotional” approaches, can bring about the greatest increases in prediction accuracy. |
