Popis: | Bone grafting is an important tool for filling osseous defects in foot and ankle procedures. Many alternatives exist for use by the surgeon, each with their own risks and benefits. Two adjunctive materials available for use to enhance the effects of these grafts are plateletrich plasma and mesenchymal stem cells. We have developed an algorithm for use of each based on a cell proliferation triangle. Both materials have shown positive results in basic science and clinical studies and show promise as safe and cost-effective alternatives to augment bone healing. |
