Popis: Gaseous products of the thermal decomposition of Ni(IV), Tb(IV), Mn(IV), and Pt(IV) complex fluorides were studied by high-temperature mass spectrometry. The results demonstrate that the decomposition of potassium hexafluoronickelate and potassium heptafluorotherbate is accompanied by atomic fluorine release and that K 2 NiF 6 decomposes in two steps, at 570-670 and 700-850 K. p (F) and p (F 2 ) measurements indicate that the reaction 2F = F 2 does not reach equilibrium. Data on K 3 TbF 7 vaporization suggest that the vapor phase contains complex Tb(IV) molecules. Comparison of the decomposition temperatures of TbF 4 and K 3 TbF 7 indi- cates that the complex fluoride is more stable. The thermolysis of cesium hexafluoromanganate and potassium hexafluoroplatinate is accompanied by no fluorine release. Experimental data attest to the presence of Cs 2 MnF 6 in the vapor phase. In addition, Cs 2 MnF 6 decomposes to form Mn(III) complexes. K 2 PtF 6 sublimes with decomposition to form KF and Pt metal.
