A 44-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of tarry stool. X-ray and endoscopic examinations revealed a tumor with stalk in descending part of the duodenum. The biopsy specimen showed the tumor being originated from the smooth muscle. The tumor was excised and pathological diagnosis was made as leiomyoblastoma with a low grade malignancy. Duodenal leiomyoblastoma is a very rare entity and it is difficult to diagnose exactly before operation. Analysis of nuclear DNA contents of tumor cells is supposed to play some role to indicate the malignant potential of leiomyomatous tumors. |
