Popis: In the early days of the nuclear arms race, the concept of nuclear-weapon-free zones was introduced as a possible measure to prevent further dissemination of nuclear weapons to more states and to avert the risk of nuclear war in specified geographical areas. The earliest proposal, relating to Europe, was made in the United Nations in 1956. In 1957 the Rapacki plan proposed the permanent absence of nuclear weapons from all the territories in Central Europe.
