Popis: | SEFI operates by conducting an annual conference but most of the effort is directed by its working groups. The Mathematics Working Group (SEFI‐MWG) was formed in 1982 with the aim of furthering developments in mathematical education, assessing the impact of computer technology and monitoring the needs of industry. Regular seminars of the SEFI‐MWG have provided valuable international liaison and this has enabled a core curriculum in mathematics to be designed. This is intended to provide a guideline for the teaching of mathematics to engineers in tertiary institutions throughout Europe. It specifies four main parts, namely analysis and calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, and discrete mathematics. This structure reflects the parallel importance of emerging technologies as well as traditional mathematical skills and hierarchical development. It also discriminates between deterministic and stochastic problems and models. The SEFI‐MWG is very aware of the changing form of core mathematical ed... |
