The work performed and reported in this paper examined the overall performance of the Benghazi plant throughout the year at different load and different ambient conditions. This was done by simulating the power plant using the IPSEpro commercial software. An absorption refrigeration unit was then added to the model and the simulation repeated with the absorption unit stabilising the gas turbine inlet conditions. The performance of the gas turbine and steam turbine units is presented and discussed. The results of the simulation indicate that retrofitting an absorption refrigerator to the existing power plant is thermodynamically possible and has the potential for improving the overall efficiency and reducing the greenhouse gases produced by the plant. |
