The primary aim of these notes is to provide a concise overview of our current Understanding of low-energy three-nucleon photonuclear reactions. They should serve as background for future work in this area; in particular, as to whether aspects of three-body forces can be made manifest through photonuclear reactions at low energies. If three-body forces can be shown to play a significant role in the the Structure of the D-state component of the three-nucleon wave function, then it is likely that low-energy photonuclear reactions will be a useful means of focusing our Comprehension, especially by means of polarization observables. Thus, with this PUrpose in mind, the material is divided into three main parts: I.) An historical review (1967-1982) -exact three-body calculations and what we have learned; 2.) Theoretical challenges -one theorist's thoughts on what we should pursue; and 3.) CUrrent theoretical efforts (1983-86) -work that has been experimentally ~otivated. |
