We have presented two cases in which the one-stage procedure has been used in the treatment of pharyngoesophageal diverticulum. If the patient is in good condition and the sac is not too large, we believe that this procedure can be carried out. If there is any doubt as to the one- or two-stage procedure, we believe that the two-stage procedure should be used because there is less danger of mediastinal infection. The ultimate result should be obtained whether the one- or two-stage procedure is used. The one-stage procedure minimizes the amount of time, but time should never be considered if there is any question as to the safety of the patient. |
