Popis: Patients with neuromuscular disease frequently experience acute respiratory failure. Most require endotracheal intubation or tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation because of paralysis and inability to maintain adequate spontaneous respiration. The prognosis is usually excellent if ventilatory management is successful. ( JAMA 235:733-735, 1976)
