Popis: This study develops a convenient apparatus to examine a single free droplet's combustion under micro-gravity, with the influence of natural convection eliminated. An upward-motion droplet is generated via ink jet printing. At the instance when the moving droplet reaches the apex of its trajectory, it is ignited by a high-energy spark discharge, and the whole system is then released into free fall. The droplet's burning history is recorded by a high speed motion camera, and the combustion phenomena are then investigated and compared with those obtained under normal-gravity. Qualitatively, the results of the flame behaviour and the occurrence of the micro-explosion exhibit only slight differences under micro- and normal-gravity.
