An experimental installation for Mössbauer studies of 57Co-containing samples at ultralow (down to 2 K) temperatures

Popis: An experimental installation consisting of a helium flow-through cryostat and a moving resonance detector was constructed for studying irradiated and radioactive samples containing 57Co atoms. The Mossbauer spectra of 57Co(Rh) sources of various activities were measured at 295, 78, and 2 K. Despite low efficiency of recording Mossbauer radiation with a gas resonance counter, high signal-to-noise ratio allows operation with 57Co sources of very low (units of kilobecquerels) activity.
