Popis: Sixty gingival explants were cultured in vitro for periods of one to forty-eight hours in media containing I μc/ml tritiated thymidine. Autoradiograptas revealed a pattern of labelling dependent on the method of excision of the explants. Where epithelial ridges were intact, proliferalive activity at the lateral margins of the explants preceded the migration of the epithelium. Where ridges were incised during removal of the explant the injured ridges also contributed extensively to the proliferation of cells which then began active migration. Labelling of cells in the newly migrated epithelium occurred after the appearance of an argyrophilic hasement membrane byt before the appearance of a P.A.S, positive structure.
