A model for energy flow through a forest-floor arthropod system is developed and used to estimate fluxes of eight elements through the decomposer food-web. Field estimates of standing crops of undecomposed leaves and stems and partially decomposed litter were made at monthly intervals for one year. Forest floor invertebrates were sampled concurrently and separated according to four consumer levels: (1) fungivores, (2) litter grazers, (3) general detritivores, and (4) predators. Estimates of microbial standing crops and productivities were obtained from related studies in the same community for inclusion in the foodweb model. (LMT) |
