Popis: SALT suffers from the malady of all telescopes and observatories: Having limited resources to retain the functionality of aging equipment. To maximize the effectiveness of the resources available careful consideration must be given to where efforts are focused. This study shows how the fault tracking system at SALT has been optimized using simple web based tools. Graphical representations of the fault data are used so that the user can quickly recognize trends. The system effectively focuses management attention on the areas of the telescope where intervention will deliver the most cost effective drop in downtime. This systemized approach has reduced monthly average downtime from 10.8% to 2.8% over the last three observing semesters.
