This chapter presents a case study of using polymeric nanoparticles loaded with Crocus sativus L. (saffron) in the cream formulation for topical application. The in vitro anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of both crude extract and its nanosuspension have been evaluated by Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power Assay and egg albumin methods, respectively. The experimental data indicated that polymeric nanoparticles loaded with C. sativus L. in the cream formulation posed the ability to penetrate through the skin at various barriers and could provide the controlled release. |
