Popis: The chapter analyzes national leaders’ representation in textbooks that cover the History of Spain used in the second year of the Baccalaureate, the final year of national Secondary Education. Following an in-depth review of the literature about the use of History of Spain textbooks at the aforementioned educational level, the diversity of leaderships is properly addressed, with the focus on those leaders with the highest relevance both in the national and international spheres. The study examines both textual and graphical representations, providing the reader with an analysis oriented to clarify, in a contrasting manner, how the most relevant leaders are portrayed – and, therefore, how Spanish youngsters internalize their overall significance. The concept of leader is understood not only as connoting institutional rulers, but also keeping in mind the role, played by popular leaders that somehow have assumed their prominence in Spanish history.
