Paphia amabilis having bright red color muscle (resulted from high in carotinoids) is an important edible shellfish in southern Japan and China. It is widely distributed in southeast Asia seacoast, but in recent years, its natural populations have been declining sharply due to overfishing and environmental changes. With the development of aquaculture of this nutrient-rich and intriguing clam, P. amabilis will becomes a promising delicious species for consumption for common people. |
