Popis: AISI 4142 is a commonly used alloy steel in machining tool due to its hardenability and low cost. In this study, Robotic Hammer Peening (RHP) is explored as a surface modification process to further enhance its material properties such as hardness and fatigue strength. The objective of this work is to examine the effect of overlap on the improvement of material properties of AISI 4142. Results revealed that increasing overlap produces increment in the surface hardness increases by up to 20%, and generates deeper residual stresses that can reach beyond 1.6 mm from the peened surface.
