Designing and performing various metabolism and nature-of-the-residue (plant, livestock, rotational crop, and general metabolism and toxicokinetic) studies required for registration of a pesticide have historically been done using a country-by-country approach. The rise of globalization of agriculture and increased regulatory scrutiny by individual countries has led to different, and sometimes conflicting, requirements for registrants to meet. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has undertaken the harmonization of registration requirements for metabolism and nature-of-the-residue studies. This article provides a brief overview of the new harmonized guidelines. Keywords: metabolism; OECD; harmonization; guideline; plant; livestock; rotational crop; pharmacokinetics |
