Popis: | We would like to thank Dr. Elkerdani et al. and Dr. Maziak for tackling such a sensitive medicolegal issue. Child abuse is the maltreatment of a child by an adult in a way which is unacceptable in a given culture at a given time. Child abuse is subdivided into physical sexual and emotional abuse and child neglect. This sociomedicolegal condition is very common in the West. In the US an estimate of 1.6%-14% has been reported out of which 4000 children die annually. In the UK 4% of children less than 12 years suffer from child abuse 1 in 10000 dies and the incidence is increasing. We are quoting these records just for comparison with the incidence of child abuse in Saudi Arabia where it is a newly emerging or a newly identified entity. Only a few case reports are available in the Saudi literature and the total number of cases is very low. (excerpt) |
