Popis: A method for quantitatively comparing the Limit-Cycle Oscillatory motion for an F- 16 aircraft with varying external store carriage configurations is presented. The difficulty in understanding this motion for asymmetric configurations in particular is discussed. The method presented involves the distillation of the wing-tip motion to three parameters. The method for calculating these parameters from an analytic solution is reviewed. A procedure for calculating these same parameters from flight test data is then presented and several obstacles encountered are discussed along with possible solutions. Parameters obtained from flight test results are presented and it is shown that they confirm some general trends predicted by analysis. The parameters proved to be useful in comparing two configurations that exhibit different levels of LCO and in providing possible insight as to the causes of the differences. Although direct comparison of parameter values obtained through analysis and flight test is not yet useful, it was shown that the comparative trends that were predicted by analysis were seen during testing for a limited set. It is expected that as more data sets are analyzed, the parameterization of flutter motion will provide useful insight into the analysis of asymmetric external store carriage configurations on fighter aircraft and will help to reduce the amount of flutter testing required.
