On a New Actinocephalid Gregarine, Contospora opalnia gen. nov., sp. nov. from the Gut of an Arachnid Opalnia sp

Popis: Summary Contospora opalnia gen. nov., sp. nov. (Order-Eugregarinida, Family-Actinocephalidae, Subfamily-Acanthosporinae) is described in the arachnid, Opalnia sp., from Dharwar (Kalaghatagi and Someshwar areas), Karnataka State, India. The diagnostic characters of this new genus and new species are: 1. Cephalonts and sporonts solitary. 2. The epimerite of the cephalonts is conical and knob-like, having dentition at its base with series of (about 20) verticle lamellae and it persists till the syzygy takes place. 3. The protomerite is broadly rounded hemispherical in shape and the deutomerite is broad just below the septum and tapers gradually towards the posterior end. 4. The various ratios are PL: TL, 1: 10.6 and PW : DW, 1 : 1.5. 5. 5. The nucleus is oval. 6. Gametocysts are spherical and dehisce by simple rupture on 5th day releasing cylindrical sporocysts in short chains. The sporocysts are pointed at both poles with a tuft of spines. 7. There is no intracellular development at any stage of the gregarine.
