Primary and early-passage cultures of a variety of normal and neoplastic tissues were used to study the relationship between the secretion of plasminogen activator and expression of the malignant phenotype in spontaneous human tumours. The correlations expected on the basis of experimental studies in other systems were not observed. Our failure to document a consistent relationship between malignancy and plasminogen activator secretion in this survey may be attributable to technical or other biological factors inherent in the experimental approach that we employed. |
