Popis: | Kad et al . and Dao et al . have used room-temperature flow stress and workhardening data to model the plastic deformation and fracture of two-phase (alpha+ gamma) titanium-aluminium alloys deformed to 20% strain. Here, it is suggested that their predicted pockets of hydrostatic pressure ought to give rise to X-ray line broadening and, in thin sections cut from bulk forgings, to mechanical relaxation. However, to achieve upsets of 20%, it has proved necessary to carry out the deformation at a high temperature. Subsequent examination at room temperature reveals no line broadening and no mechanical relaxation. |
