This chapter examines how innovation, leisure and sport can be integrated in urban planning, such as smart city strategies. “Smart Bodo”—a Norwegian urban development project triggered by a critical juncture, is the empirical context of this study. Four cases of socially innovative approaches to sport and leisure in the development of Smart Bodo are investigated. The analysis demonstrates how city planners utilize innovative collaborations with volunteer sport organizations, digital tools and novel citizen involvement initiatives to ensure that quality of life and physical activity are incorporated in the urban development of the city. |
