Popis: The electronic atlas is a new form of cartographic presentation and can be defined as an atlas developed for use primarily on electronic media. The electronic atlas is one product of an Electronic Mapping System (EMS), which is a system for the development and/or the use of electronic maps. This paper considers the major characteristics of electronic atlases and electronic mapping systems. A brief review of the development of electronic atlases is followed by a detailed description of their characteristics using the Electronic Atlas of Canada as an example. -from Authors
