Popis: In this paper, a frequency-domain methodology based on decentralised control theory is proposed to co-ordinate multiple FACTS controllers as well as to minimise the potential for adverse interaction between control loops. First, the concept of dynamic loop interaction in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) control systems is introduced. Using the notion of a generalised dynamic relative gain in decentralised control systems, a method is then proposed to determine the best pairing of inputs and outputs for the design of MIMO systems. Finally, a residue-based method is adopted to tune system controllers. The design methodology is tested on a 6-area, 130-machine and 351bus practical power system in which several large static VAR compensators are embedded in a complex AC network. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
