Three models of a differential absorption spectrometer have been developed for determining the photon spectra of bremsstrahlung sources whose endpoints vary from ∼ 150 to 2000 keV. Spectral data are unfolded from dose-depth measurements using an iterative technique, with spectral response functions generated by a radiation transport code (CEPXS/ONETRAN). Unfolded spectra from quasi-monoenergetic photon sources from 17 to 1250 keV, and from a well-characterized continuous bremsstrahlung source at endpoint energies from 150 to 900 keV, were in good agreement with the known or calculated spectra. The use of the DAS to estimate the spectra from flash X-ray sources is demonstrated. The effects of systematic and random errors on unfolded spectra are evaluated. |
