In this work, alanine polycrystalline samples irradiated by γ radiation were examined in UV-VIS spectral region by the use of photoacoustic spectrometer with a microphone registration. The observed spectral band has been assigned to one type of free radicals which are known to be produced in the crystalline alanine by ionizing radiation. The number of these radicals was concurrently controlled by the use of EPR method. Increase of the photoacoustic peak at 345 nm with increasing radiation dose was observed for a wide range of doses. For the highest dose, the shape of the obtained PA spectrum evidently changed, probably due to contribution from other type of molecular debris. Reasonable agreement between results of photoacoustic spectrometry and EPR was proved. |
